My YouTube channel (linked in my signature) has a lot of videos on Path but there are other YouTubers who have done a good job as well. Once you have your gcode, you can load it onto your CNC and make some chips. ![]() The LinuxCNC is the most commonly used one and works for most uses but there's also a GRBL post and a few others. In the Job configuration, you'll tell FreeCAD which post-processor to use depending on your machine. This tells FreeCAD to generate the gcode to control your machine. After you have all the operations configured the way you want and in order, you'll 'post -process' your file. This shows the green lines where the tool will cut and red lines where it moves from place to place without cutting. ![]() When you configure an operation correctly, you'll see the tool path generated on the screen. There are other operations for drilling, partial depth holes (pockets) etc. This cuts around the outside and cuts out holes from the inside. For router jobs you're mostly going to focus on the Profile operations. Step 4 is to add 'operations' Operations inform path what you want to do. You'll need at least one tool controller. FreeCAD makes a distinction between the physical tool called a 'ToolBit' and the usage of that tool called a 'Tool Controller' A tool controller tells FreeCAD which tool to use but also how fast to travel and how fast to spin the spindle. You can always come back and adjust things. If you are cutting more than one part from the stock, you can also use this page to arrange the parts relative to each other. That's the 0,0 point on your machine relative to the work you're cutting out. In the job setup screen you can move your part around and determine where the 'origin' will be. You'll select your part and create a 'Job'. Step 2 is to switch to the Path workbench. That's about designing the thing you want to cut on your router. It sounds like you've already mastered step 1. I'm going to describe the overall process briefly and then encourage you to watch some YouTube videos to see more of the details. I'm building another control box with GRBL so I can plug my router to any of the control box's so I would also like to know what system is preferred by people to use for routers GRBL or Mach3. my laptops have both got windows 10 64bit. I have reloaded my laptop so i have nothing on it at the moment so I'm hoping that if somebody will help me they will give me the programs i need ang the versions so I can load my laptop with known working versions. I'm disabled from a head injury and find researching very difficult so I'm hoping somebody who uses a windows system to build a project and send it to a mach3 router and could talk me through sending the process. I know I need to send it to a cam software but no idea how to send it to a cam program do i save the project and send the saved program to the cam or do I export it. I have mastered Freecad enough to draw a simple project but after that I am stuck. ![]() I just bought a 400W CNC3040 router with usb mach3 and never used mach3 or a cnc machine.
